LYRICS
Her banjo like a mountain stream
Through the hollow, trickling
Alexandra you know I feel like a new man
Let's find a mandolin and start up a little string band
An old Victrola by the back porch swing
A little moonshine lending us wings
Let's fly down the Lehigh to that big ocean
Or up New England right over Mount Washington
Old man do you remember who I am
i am you when you were a young man
Smoother skin steadier hand
I'll try to take care of us the best I can
Old Bull Frog sitting in his Cherokee
Singing like a hound dog in a minor key
You know he's the reason you ever met me
Alexandra marry me

Tossing of the Corn
03:57
|
|||
Chickens scratching leaves and straw
Release the essence of the fall
Tickling maple fountains
Beside the snowy mountain
Sitting with my pen in hand
Listening to a piece of land
Watching branches play
With the light of passing day
If we go to sleep tonight
Our pillows cradle inner light
If we breathe the morn
We will be reborn
When the spruce guitar awakes
The iron core of earth will shake
The wind will carry way
The words of yesterday
From the page of chicken scratch
A peeping melody will hatch
A song is being born
Like the tossing of the corn
Sing this melody with me
Dancing like a windy trees
Whispering their thanks
On the lazy riverbanks
As the sun moves cross the sky
The light will filter through our eyes
And move our minds again
To the markings of the pen
to the paper
Chickens scratching leaves and straw
Release the essence of the fall

Shindog

|
|||
I see a light in everything
I see a light in you
Red, yellow and blue
There's a rhythm in everything
Feel the beat inside of you
Soft, mellow and true
From Shindog to Hetchel
One hell of a view
Browns and greens and yellows... red, white and blue
Is everything in everything
Is everything in you
Red, yellow and blue

Hiking through a lazy meadow under moonlit sky
Little daisy stops me saying, "Hi."
Can you tell me where you're going and where you've been
No one's ever stopped to tune me in, how you been?
Well I started off in Georgia eighty eight days ago
Got to get to Baxter before the snow, got to go.

The Albatross
04:56
|
|||
The clouds they hug my ankles
Can not see my feet
Toes are toasty
Nose is froze at 32,000 feet
I've crossed the coldest oceans and waded the deepest seas
Slept beneath the northern lights and smoked the tallest trees
Leaped the snowy mountains and I held the albatross
Chased the silver moon and traced the southern cross
There's a storm on the horizon
40 paces west
Hold my hat cause through is blue
That's where I'll take my rest
I've crossed the coldest oceans and waded the deepest seas
Slept beneath the northern lights and smoked the tallest trees
Leaped the snowy mountains and I held the albatross
Chased the silver moon and traced the southern cross
Out here on the prairie weathered like the sage
Laying down on the ground like a strange new range
And I'll sleep here for an age

Elias prayed for rain but no water fell from the sky
The field flooded anyway and the Governor, he knew why
He didn't mind the music much but that Democratic crowd
So he sent them all a swimming and he was sadly proud
Oh Elias got them God forsaken blues
The pickup truck sat so high up you could hardly see the ground
But we saw him there with ragged hair hiding from the sounds
We pulled him from the fence of fear up into that rig
His stare turned to a smile there and he offered us a cig
Oh Elias got them God forsaken blues
The tracks were under water but the railroad played on through
Hobos hopped for higher ground and a band within them grew
We gathered round a wooden porch like a wild western town
From the hills into the street all heads turned to the sound
The Governors head was a boiling but he never would confess
But seeds of good did grow from his God forsaken mess

Hiding Place
04:03

Looking for a hiding place
In this here rodent race
Away from all the cars and houses behind bars
Live at a walking pace
Looking for a hiding place
In this here rodent race
With no need for the cops, just your house and your crops
And some open space
But my brother is a bastard
Yeah he's an asshole
He says this is my road get out of my way
Who says you can drive on my road anyway
Everybody here's in everybody's way out on the mean street
They call the freeway
Looking for a hiding place
This here rodent race
With a couple of guitars underneath the stars
And an upright bass
With a harp for the jaw and a musical saw
And an old time pace
With an open back banjo and a tater bug mandolin
And Amazing Grace

SUN RAYS AND SKIES
Can you see in my eyes the sun rays and skies
From the springtime of my life
With you woman
By the boulders on the sunny side
Near the blanket where you lie
Lichen growing soft and green
The color of your eyes
I can see in your eyes the sun rays and skies
From the springtime of my life
With you woman
The river swelled with happiness in the corner of your eye
Your smiled called and the water falled
And we were laughing while we cried
I can see in your eyes the sun rays and skies
From the springtime of my life
With you woman
Can you see in my eyes the sun rays and skies
From the springtime of my life
With you woman
Can you see in my eyes the sun rays and skies
From the springtime of my life
With you woman
Sun rays and skies
In your soft green eyes
Sun rays and skies
From the springtime of my life
with you woman

The Drought

THE DROUGHT by Josh Finsel
What would we drink ma if all the water were in the sky?
Climb the highest mountain, breathe deep but don't say goodbye.
Please I hope you'll try.
What do you mean ma about saying goodbye? Please you'll make me cry.
Hold back your tears child please don't cry, cause soon that water too will be in the sky.
I don't believe it's true.
It will rain again.
The rain will make us cool.
The drought will come to an end.
How do we keep the water raining down ma, please I need to know?
You could have clean water child in every spring and hole if you would only please give me back control.
